Low Carbon Innovation for Africa – A Survey

Help us to Identify Sustainable Solutions for Africa

Climate Action needs your help in identifying the leading low carbon solutions being deployed across Africa; providing NGOs, UN agencies and governments with the opportunity to improve the lives of millions of people.

In Africa, climate change impacts are hindering sustainable development by contributing to reduced rainfall, warmer temperatures, flooding and the spread of water-borne diseases. Whilst Africa contributes relatively little to global greenhouse gas emissions, a lower adaptive capacity makes many regions more vulnerable to these impacts.

To focus in on the opportunities available to develop low carbon solutions in the region, Climate Action is launching a cutting-edge list of leading technologies and solutions being developed to innovate sustainable solutions for energy, water, agriculture, waste management and finance.

We will collate the top 50 solutions and publish the results ahead of the Sustainable Innovation Expo at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) on 23-27 May 2016 - during which global Environment Ministers will meet in Nairobi to discuss the direction of international environmental policy. We believe that the report will inspire attending national policy makers, UN organisations, investors and NGOs, garnering support for the future solutions for sustainable development in Africa.

You can help us to develop this report by recommending innovations that your organisation has developed, is developing or that you think is an inspirational sustainable product. If you are a UN organisation or NGO please click here to recommend a solution, or click here if you are a private sector organisation.

In recognition of your support we will share the complete report with you.

Solutions should fall into the following categories:

  • Water management
  • Waste management (including sanitation)
  • Energy
  • Agriculture
  • Financing and insurance products
